Timothy Tweito, MD, FACS
Board Certified Ophthalmologist, Vitreoretinal Surgeon

Dr. Tweito is a board-certified ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal specialist. He specializes in a variety of medical and surgical conditions of the retina and vitreous including age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment repair, endophthalmitis, uveitis and retinal vascular diseases. Dr. Tweito considers it a privilege to care for his patients’ vision for a lifetime. He feels as at home in an operating room as he does in the clinic developing lifelong relationships with his patients. “I am drawn to the complexity of the retina and recognize the importance of vision for quality of life. Your sight impacts everything you do in life, and I am fascinated by the depth of knowledge, evolving research, and technological advancements in my field.”

Born and raised in Hutchinson, Kansas, Dr. Tweito received an Environmental Engineering Degree at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He then received his Medical Degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine Internship at the UF Health/Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. He went on to complete his Ophthalmology Residency and Vitreoretinal Fellowship at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio where he also served as a Clinical Assistant Professor and was awarded the Makley-Battles Teaching Award for resident teaching. Dr. Tweito worked as an investigator on the original Lucentis studies for the treatment of wet macular degeneration.

After his fellowship training, Dr. Tweito practiced in Seattle where he served on the faculty at University of Washington and as one of the team ophthalmologists for the Seattle Supersonics. He then spent twelve years in Las Vegas as a partner in a private practice, while also serving as a member of the faculty of Touro University training ophthalmology residents. Dr. Tweito is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Florida Society of Ophthalmology and The Vit-Buckle Society.

In his free time, Dr. Tweito enjoys spending time with his wife, Heather, and his twin children, Sonia and Ben. He likes travelling, live music, learning to play the guitar and hiking. (He has summited over a dozen 14,000-foot peaks!) He is a diehard Kansas City Chiefs fan and enjoys the challenge of learning new languages. He has been working on his examination French and Norwegian, and spent a year abroad in Salamanca, Spain learning Spanish. “As a child we often vacationed in Florida, and one of my fondest childhood memories is my father taking us to see the initial launch of the space shuttle Columbia. I am so excited to return to the Space Coast to create similar memories with my wife and children.”

Personal Background

 

Dr. Timothy Tweito has fond memories of a very special childhood visit to Brevard.

“As a child we often vacationed in Florida, and one of my fondest childhood memories is my father taking us to see the initial launch of the Space Shuttle Columbia,” said Dr. Tweito, who is back in the area, this time to stay.

 

“I am so excited to return to the Space Coast to create similar memories with my wife and children.”
